If you are an out-of-state resident, however, you may pay a little more and consider that a reasonable trade-off for pursuing your education in Hawaii. If you are a resident, you are pretty much a shoe-in for low tuition in Hawaii. Take a look at the following colleges:
Hawaii Community College is one of the choices on your list if you’re looking for low tuition in Hawaii. Located in Hilo, Hawaii, this school offers a range of programs you can take while amidst the vivid beauty of the island. The college offers not only academic programs, but also a range of career and technical programs you may pursue. You can even take online courses at this school. The tuition is surprisingly reasonable if you are a resident. You can attend for just $88 per credit hour. As a non-resident, you will have to pay considerably more, as tuition for non-residents is $281 per credit hour.
If you’re interested in a four-year college, consider attending Brigham Young University. Located in Laie, Hawaii, the university offers a variety of degree programs from which you may choose. Its student body includes about 2500 students who hail from 70 different countries. Tuition at this college is the cheapest if you are a Latter Day Saint. In such a case, you can attend full time for a little over $2000 for the fall/winter term. If you are not a Latter Day Saint, you may have to pay significantly more. Non-Latter Day Saints have to pay about $4300 for the same term. Depending on the other schools you are considering, however, even the non-Saint tuition may be a good deal for you.
The University of Hawaii at Mānoa, which is part of the University of Hawaii System, is located in the Manoa Valley near Honolulu. It features 11 colleges, nine schools, and bachelor’s degree programs in more than 90 majors. You can also earn a graduate or professional degree at this school. Tuition at this school is about $3792 per semester for an undergraduate resident. Watch out if you do not have resident status! You’ll have to pay more than $10,000 to go full time.
